Olaf Oosterman ( 32 ) is a man with a mission and he has no time to loose. He has the syndrome of Marfan, a rare disease that only a very small group of people ( 1500 ) in Holland carry. One of the symptoms of this disease is that the aorta becomes weak and can easily rip to pieces. In his case the aorta has been replaced from heart to stomach by a long artificial piece. Before being hammered down again by this rare syndrome he worked in his free time on his own wooden sailing yacht ( 14 m ) that he planned to use to sail the seven seas of the globe. This all changed after Olaf was struck by a severe bacterial infection. The recovery took months in the hospital and his current condition basically makes his plan of sailing the globe impossible. Between 1991 and 2005 he has been operated on 5 times and every time to replace or repair parts or connections to the aorta. However until now he has continued the construction of the yacht with the help of initially the Bart Foundation. This foundation helps young people with severe diseases realising their dreams. He adjusted his goal to sailing the Mediterranean and dedicate the vessel to making short cruises with severely ill youngsters. The Bart foundation has supported Olaf financially with money that came from donations and they have searched for sponsors that could supply materials and products or expertise or labour, but it's Olaf that will remain the driving force behind the construction of the yacht.
Olaf together with his friends and sponsors are pushing to finish the project even after the Bart Foundation stop their support. Naturally after the foundation dropped their support he really needs all the help he can get.
Supernavi together with Aspect ( the Dutch distributor of the Boero / Supernavi products ) is sponsoring this project by supplying the primers and topcoat for this noble project. They are also helping in recruiting the right people to apply these products ( naturally also these will become part of the sponsor project ) On this website we will try to keep you informed about the progress of Olaf and his dream.
