After extensive test with all available ready highbuild fillers, it becomes clear that the Boero Supernavi Epolight filler is the lightest filler on the Yachtpaint market. The 50cm by 50 cm panels that were prepared by an independent company were all the same size and thickness. However to obtain the same thickness of filler required they needed to add more filler in certain cases. This is related to the shrinkage of certain fillers. Naturally this results in an even larger weight difference then if you simply take the difference of one litre of each product. Taking the five main brands on the market, you can come to the conclusion that Epolight is the lightest and most flexible of all of them ( even if you just take one litre of each of them ). The filler who is based on microballoons reaches a shore D of around 57 is therefore also the easiest sandable filler of all of the main brands. It is easily possible to reach very high thicknesses ( 2 or 3 cm ) if applied in smaller layers of around 7mm each. One of the last test, but certainly not least important test of the panels was the “crash” test.
This test was performed with a large hammer and was aimed to see what the filler would do in case the vessel would collide with another object. Also this test showed that the filler would bend with the damaged surface ( the metal used for the test was aluminium ). Other fillers were far more vulnerable to cracking. Boero was pleased to see these results of the performed test and commented that for many years this has remained a so called public secret. They added to this fact that most yachtbuilders that have worked with Boero over the years have become aware of the outstanding characteristics of the Epolight filler.
