A&E robot wins award at Seatec show

Boero ph-merlo 080717 (164)  The A&E Yacht maintenance Robot that is used exclusively with Supernavi products and works in partnership with the Boero company demonstated it's clear added value on the Seatec show in Carara. The reference event for the marine industry, Seatec brings together quality companies and is the ideal venue for presenting products and innovation, events and international competitions. This is the case of the Qualitec Technology Award, an award for innovative technology, set up to award and promote technology innovation put forward and presented by companies exhibiting at Seatec, the seventh International exhibition for technology, supplies and design for boats, yachts and ships. The Robot is able to sand all applied filler and highbuild primers as well as the alumunium surface.
A high profile jury examined the projects for 2009’s competition composed of Paolo Scifoni (chairman), Giampiero Audino and Paolo Colombo who, after examining a really remarkable series of products on show, assigned first place to the company A&E Yacht Services based in Viareggio for IMR 1.0, an actual system for the robotic application of complete filling and topcoat cycles on super yacht hulls that, according to the official motivation, is a significant step ahead in many areas such as the pre-calculation of the quantities of filler necessary, continuous applications over longer periods of time and so lower overall time as well as a significant reduction of accident risks related to work high up on scaffolding, with a significant reduction of dust dispersed in the environment. The “robot” carries out the application of the various coats and the milling of each coat so as to carry out the established cycles with an accuracy that is not possible by traditional methods at a lower overall cost compared to traditional methods.

String of Yachts being launched by CRN

Following the launch of M/Y “Romance” and only a week after the launch of the 43 mt M/Y “Rubeccan” CRN launched the fifth vessel of CRN 128’ composite line: “Lady Belmor”. The mega planing-yacht, was placed in the water on October 25th during a private ceremony for the shipowner and his family.

Following the traditional breaking of the bottle, the vessel, with her elegant grey hull - the first time this colour has been used on the 128’ line – thrilled the onlooking guests as it entered the water.

The paint system of almost all CRN produced yachts has been provided by Boero as complete Supernavi system up to the topcoat, but the way it looks now, the following 43m yacht of CRN will also have the Challenger HS topcoat.

At a length of 40 metres and a width of 7.7, this mega-yacht can easily accommodate 12 passengers and a crew of 8.

CRN launch Designed for owners who want onboard comfort, but without neglecting performance, the two engines of the CRN 128’ line, MTU 12V 4000 M90 2040 kW models, provide a maximum speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 19.

Further proof of the technological excellence built into every mega-yacht designed by CRN is the installation, as a standard feature, of 5 Mitsubishi Anti Rolling Gyros (5 MSM 4000), a stabiliser system capable of reducing the roll of the ship by more than 50%, especially when it is anchored offshore or docked.

The result of a joint effort by the CRN technical team and the Zuccon International Project firm, “Lady Belmor” is a yacht with an unmistakably distinctive layout featuring three covered decks, plus an innovative tender garage with side opening.

Selected after close consultation with the owner, the elements of the interior design are characterised by a modern design, highlighted by the numerous details in steel, such as the frames on the built-in furniture and the wooden Venetian blinds, used in place of decorative curtains in all the different settings. A single type of wood panelling, canaletto walnut, is found throughout the ship, whose further elements of design elegance include the “L”-shaped Cassina sofa in the main lounge. The owner’s suite of this highly refined mega-yacht is found in the forward portion of the main deck, while the lower deck is set aside for the guests’ night zone.

As for the immense sundeck, its forward section holds a tub, while the aft portion serves as a sunbathing area.

Launch of the latest 58m Baglietto

Cantieri Navali Baglietto, a world leader in the construction of superyachts, is proud to announce the launch of hull No. C. 10201, a 58-metre aluminium motor yacht, christened Viki.

The naval architecture and exterior lines are designed by Gruppo Baglietto Engineering, the in house naval engineering centre that provides the shipyards of the Group with expertise in naval engineering, design and research and development.

Viki_launch_at_bagliettoArchitect and designer William Sawaya from the studio Sawaya & Moroni created Viki’s interior style and some exterior details. The result is an elegant interior décor with fine details and showing a vast range of rare and precious materials.

Baglietto paints almost all their new-builds ( including Viki ) with the Supernavi paint system from Boero. The final topcoat in this case is Awlgrip/Dupont.

This yacht offers a great degree of comfort even at high speeds and has distinct details that make her unique:

Helicopter deck and a relaxing area with a large sauna offering a sea view and a green wall or vertical garden and a 900 litre aquarium in the guest lobby.

Baglietto_varazzeBaglietto Yachts are constructed in Northwestern Italy at two shipyards at Varazze and La Spezia. Pietro Baglietto founded this company in 1854, in Varazze, first with an emphasis on a military/naval shipyard. As well as continuing in this military tradition, Varazze's pleasure yacht specialty is in fast motor yachts up to 131 feet in size, and La Spezia creates superyachts over 131 feet in length. Aluminum and steel are the construction materials of choice for Baglietto, who draws from a wide technology and process base for creating vessels.

The La Speziare shipyard, in use since 1930, also has a long history with refittings.
In 2004 – when Gruppo Baglietto entered the yachting business – the value of its production was less than
€40 million. At the end of 2008, production will exceed €190 million.
At present the Group is fully committed until 2011, with 25 orders that, between them, amount to a total
length of 1,032 metres. For more info visit www.baglietto.com

PERINI NAVI LAUNCHES S/Y P2, 38M FAST SLOOP

Perini Navi was happy to announce that the first Perini Navi to be designed by Philippe Briand - a 38m fast sloop - was launched at the Cantieri Navali Beconcini (a Perini Navi Group company) in La Spezia – Italy. The combination of Perini Navi’s philosophy and Briand’s vision has led to this new class of fast sailing yachts for owners who seek high performance allied with Perini Navi’s legendary comfort and unmatched quality. The designer, Philippe Briand says: ”While designing the new Perini 125’ line we had the image of a high performance gentleman’s yacht in mind. A performance sailing yacht needs to be sensitive in light air and powerful and stiff in heavy winds and that is what we have created. The other characteristics of a special sailing yacht are the elegance of its look and the sensation of performance and acceleration when under sail. If you add to that a refined and comfortable interior, the yacht becomes a real dream”.

The hull is constructed in Sealium, an aluminium alloy which provides greater mechanical strength and improved corrosion characteristics, while reducing weight. In racing trim, S/Y P2 displaces approximately 138tonnes. Twenty nine tonnes of this is in her fin-and-bulb lifting keel whose draft reduces from a maximum of 5.50m to a minimum of 3.50m – ideal for allowing entrance to smaller harbours and shallow anchorages.

Upwind sailing performance is enhanced with 7 tons of salt water ballast.

Perini_navi_launchThe yacht is rigged with a 50m-tall mast made from hybrid modulus carbon-fibre - a carefully designed blend of standard and high modulus materials - and sets about 734sqm of upwind sail area. The same hybrid modulus material is used for the Park Avenue boom. Huge weight savings have been achieved with the use of PBO for the standing rigging, resulting in a particularly low weight of 310 kg, including its titanium fittings.

To fit a conventional rig with its stainless steel rod would have required a crane, while the PBO was easily fitted using the muscle power of our rigger! In the Perini tradition, the 38m series has a pleasing and comfortable lay-out. While creating her interior the Perini Navi Interior Design Department was inspired by the lightness of the hull and rig and this resulted in a design in which the furniture appears to be weightlessly suspended in the air.

On 17th July, a celebration for the delivery to the ship owner sanctioned the official launch of the Admiral 54, the first 54 metre mega yacht designed by AMY, the joint venture between CNL and T.Mariotti of Genoa shipyards founded in October 2005 for the construction of displacement mega yachts under Admiral brand.
“An important goal and a further confirmation for our brand in the world of Super yachts”, the Chairman of AMY, Annamaria Jaselli Ceccarelli, confided emotionally just before the arrival of the guests. “In less than three years from its beginning, AMY today celebrates the delivery of its first order, while a 54 metre sister ship recently purchased by a Middle-eastern ship-owner is at present under construction with delivery in 2010”, the vice-president, Marco Bisagno, added with pride.
On the evening of the celebration more than 400 guests were welcomed in the evocative frame of the marina of the Exhibition Centre in Genoa, transformed for the event in a surprising way. The whole presentation was accompanied by the spellbinding voice of a fascinating soprano, seemingly ethereal standing out on the prow of the yacht, finally the real star of the evening arrived, M/Y SEA FORCE ONE. Emotions and amazement were the conclusion of a unique event.
230608_1556Those present were the ship-owner, his family and friends, the AMY management - Annamaria Jaselli Ceccarelli, president, Marco Bisagno, vice-president, Francesco Ceccarelli, AD, Massimo Allegri, AD, Laura Ceccarelli,  member of the Board of Directors, the town council major representatives, national and international press and numerous friends who enjoyed the evening intensely.
The M/Y SEA FORCE ONE, designed by Luca Dini Design is presented on the international scene as a really unique ship.
The hull is distinguished immediately by its colour, shiny black, the silhouette of the ship is imposing but sinuous thanks to the lateral rounding off of the silver grey superstructure, the fibre optic illumination in the saloons to strip lighting under the keel which give it a unique night visibility have been carefully designed. The elegant yacht, which was completely finished in the Supernavi paint system will be presented for the first time at the next Monaco Boat Show. Supernavi first to benefit from growth of Italian Yacht industry

Early indications suggest boatbuilding will see further success this year according to UCINA. The trade association's own figures claim that Italian boatbuilders have nearly doubled turnover in the past five years, from Euro 1.1bn in 2000 to Eur 2.0bn in 2005. Growth between 2004 and 2005 was 7 per cent.

Around 60 per cent of the Euro 2bn total went to export. And the same percentage of the total came from just two sources, the Azimut and Ferretti groups.

Ucina_logo_jpeg_1UCINA president Anton Albertoni says that it is too early to make definitive claims but the signs are there for a continuance of the growth trend in 2006.

The construction of new shipyards and new facilities on thousands of sqm in Viareggio and Livorno has started last year and should take care of the increase in demand for new Yachts. The Italian economy which is currently not at all growing does not seem to effect the demand for very luxurious Yachts very much.Azimut3

Ranked by country, Italy has retained its position as the world’s leading luxury yacht-building nation, with 260 units and 29,804 linear feet of boats.  The United States  has again taken second place in that category, with 85 units accounting for 10,621 linear feet. The Netherlands and the United Kingdom retained third and fourth place, respectively, while Germany surged to fifth place.

On the strength of its total construction footage of 8,450 feet, Azimut-Benetti retained its position as the world’s leading builder, while The Ferretti Group, with 77 charter yachts under construction, held its position in second place.  With a total build length of 4,363 feet, Sunseeker advanced to third place, supplanting Rodriguez Group, which fell to fourth.  Royal Denship, which ranked ninth last year, jumped to fifth place, with 29 projects representing 2,976 feet.

The “custom builders” category was again paced by Benetti (Italy), with 14 projects totaling 2,640 feet.  Feadship (Netherlands) jumps into second place with 11 projects amassing 2,107 feet, while Lürssen Yachts (Germany) falls to third, with nine projects totaling 2,072 feet.  Trinity Yachts, the largest builder in the United States, moves up to fourth place, while Heesen Yachts (Netherlands) places fifth. For more info on ranking see Showboats international reports

Raw material cost go through the roof

Never before the cost of raw materials have been spiraling like this, especially copper prices seem to go up on a daily base.

John_ludgate_rpm_1 "Sales-wise, we had a very good year in 2005," said Ludgate, vice president of marketing for Pettit Paints. "But the theme of our story is still the same as it was last year, even worse, and that is the skyrocketing costs of raw materials."

"The raw materials costs are killing us. It's like playing Russian roulette," explained Seidel, assistant marketing manager for Interlux, who has been in the business for more than 17 years. "We never, ever thought we'd have to watch copper prices on a daily basis, but that's what we've been doing lately. Copper prices for years were very steady, but now it seems like you're looking at the latest prices more than once a day."

Combined, John Ludgate and Jim Seidel have almost four decades of experience in the paints and coatings segment of the marine industry.

Ludgate, who spent 16 years at Interlux before taking over as VP of marketing for Pettit 6 years ago, said his company was forced to raise its prices effective March 1. "After more than 20 years in the business, we've never had a price increase in what we consider the heart of our busiest season," Ludgate said. "Last June, we paid $1.30 per pound for copper and last week (mid-February) it was $2.30 per pound. When you consider our paints are roughly 70 percent copper and many have as much as eight pounds of copper in the paints, well that raw material cost alone has gone up $8 per. And that does not include the other raw material cost increases. "Basically, copper prices are out of control and, unfortunately, the prognosis isn't very optimistic, either, as far as copper prices decreasing any time soon. I guess it's like the price of gasoline. I can remember paying $1 a gallon for gas, but I don't see that going back to that level ever again."Raw materials costs are the common lament elsewhere in the paints and coatings sector of the industry as well.

Boero gets involved in Offshore racing

Qatar_team_1The fastest watersport on this planet is the Offshore powerboat racing. This competition which takes place around the world has it’s base mainly in Dubai. The fibreglass reinforced vessels can reach speeds over 165 knots. The are manned by two pilots, one takes care only of the steering and the other is the throttle-man. Like their land counterpart, the Formule One racing the vessels get often and easily damaged. Sometimes the construction and paint crew are forced to rebuild the speed monster after just one race. The Offshore racing has one more matter in common with the Formule One racing. They both have a large amount of Italians working for the teams. In the case of Boero, even the Applicator Company who takes care of the paint job for two !! Offshore teams ( the famous Victory team and the Qatar team ) in Dubai is Italian originated. Director Mario Monteleoni is also the thriving force of Boero in the United Arab Emirates.Victory_team_2 The ultra light fillers are not only benificial because of the weight but naturally also their flexibilty is very important in this industry.Monteleoni claims that as soon as the teams find out about the quality and the benefits of the Boero products they don,t want anything else anymore.
